Further to our recent update concerning the COVID-19 crisis, we have taken the decision with a heavy heart to cancel this year’s HISS course and postpone our 10th anniversary celebrations to 2021.
The latest indication is that the current lockdown may last for some weeks, or months, with some forecasts even predicting six months. Many people have contacted us to express their concerns and ask for clarity. Unfortunately, at this stage, there is no way to predict what the situation will look like in August and we therefore need to take action sooner rather than later. Most of our tutors rely predominantly on freelance work, whether concerts, workshops or private teaching. We feel very strongly that our staff should be supported at this time; without them we would not be able to create the diverse and collaborative environment that we are so proud of. In ordinary times we are able to keep HISS going with a very small profit margin. In these extraordinary times, we need your help to look after our staff and to help us protect our community for future years. For this reason, if you are able to help support us through this period please consider making a donation. In the intervening period, we will be preparing material that will be available through the website, including mini-recitals, shorties and so on. We are also discussing the possibility of some regional workshops in the autumn and into spring 2021 to keep the HISS momentum going. If you have any queries, please contact us. In the meantime, stay safe, stay at home, and keep well! Best wishes to you all during this difficult time, Graham, Catherine & Ellie
