Calling all singers!
HISS 2017 for chamber choir includes a survey of Monteverdi in the 450th anniversary year of his birth, to include a selection of his Madrigals across Books 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 & 8, written during his time at the Gonzaga court in Mantua. There will be music from the “other” Vespers (1641) with Dixit Dominus II and the Gloria a 7.
We'll also explore settings of words from Psalm 137 By the Waters of Babylon; the pair of motets by de Monte, and Byrd's response to this, an anthem by Boyce and 8-part setting by Victoria. We'll also look at motets by Alonso Lobo. In lighter vein there's music by Waelrant, de Wert, Campion and Dowland. Oh, and do you know the 16 part Crucifixus by Lotti!
Singers – it's up to you if we can do all this! Sign up now to be sure we have the forces to do this fabulous music justice!
