Comments from HISS 2014 & previous courses:
"Best moment? Baroque strings with Due Corde - I learnt so much about techniques and phrasing and felt we made beautiful music."
"Vivien was exceptional; one doesn't often have the opportunity of working with someone doing original research, who is then able to communicate it in such an accessible way. She has a range of teaching techniques which involve and engage a group."
"A big thank you to Stewart. He really made you feel you could join in at every level. Enthusiasm from all the tutors is infectious!"
"Mary Tyers was able to add to pieces I thought I knew. Experimenting with 4' and 8' recorders seemed to be typical of her 'let's see if this works' attitude." "The recorder warm ups have also been brilliant!"
“I like the range of different options – so many interesting sessions. Many of them stretched my abilities and took me outside of my comfort zone, and I feel I have learned an awful lot this week”
"I'd like to say a big THANK YOU for such a wonderful HISS this year! I had a great time and I very much appreciated all your hard work. The course content was fantastic, the tutors knowledgeable and friendly, the organisation great and [Graham and Chris were] particularly reassuring and helpful. I'm already looking forward to next year!"
“The attitude of the participants made it very easy to fit in and have a great time – people were very friendly and accepting of all levels of ability – it didn’t seem excluding in any way”
"I met a variety of wonderful people and made some great music, including repertoire from Josquin, Ramsey, Morley and Praetorius. I also attended a spectacular session on the music of Hildegard von Bingen run by Vivien Ellis. In the evenings I enjoyed performances from musicians such as Susanna Pell, Jacob Heringman, Duo Corde, Mary Tyers and Stewart Hardy...It was an absolutely wonderful five days, and it is a course I can wholeheartedly recommend. Great tutors, fun sessions and a chance to meet a lot of amazing and friendly people - what more could you want!" - Jake Barlow (countertenor) Bursary Student
