Instruments and music for sale
HISS has new and secondhand instruments for sale, as well as a range of secondhand sheet music.
Secondhand shop
Every year, NEEMF (North East Early Music Forum) runs a secondhand shop throughout the course, with a wide range of sheet music, vocal scores, and facsimiles for sale across voices and instruments.
They will also have secondhand instruments for sale. Past years have offered baroque flutes, a bass curtal, many recorders, a soprano chalumeau, a Renaissance bass recorder, a medieval tenor flute, a three-hole pipe, and much more. It’s a great place to pick up a bargain!
You can bring instruments to sell, too – just label them clearly with your name and the price.
The Early Music Shop
Once again, Peter from the Early Music Shop will bring a pop-up shop to HISS with a selection from their huge range of instruments, including some secondhand ones.
If there’s something you’re particularly interested in buying, or a reconditioned instrument you’d like to see and play, contact them – well ahead of HISS (17th to 21st August) – to ask if they can bring it from the Saltaire shop, and they will always try to help.
HISS song and tune books
The HISS Tunebooks were compiled by Thomas Green to play in the bar in the evenings, or sat on the grass after lunch, or whenever the fancy strikes! The books include a mixture of traditional tunes and early tunes (not used in the official sessions – just for fun).
Buy a bound copy of the tunebook at the course for £10.
The HISS Songbook was compiled from several contributors, and includes the melody and words of about thirty well known traditional and folk tunes, plus a number of rounds.
