Our students add a huge amount to HISS, bringing energy and enthusiasm as well as impressive musical abilities. Some have considerable experience of playing early music with others, but for some this may be their first taste, and it’s a delight to see them make this discovery.

Helping with the administration of the course also gives them a valuable insight into the world of arts administration, which some may choose as a career option.

Our student bursaries are generously funded by NEEMF (North East Early Music Forum), but there are often more applicants than we can give places to. A donation from you will help us fund more student places, or give a discount to someone who can only afford part of the cost. Hardship bursaries

At some stage, we would like to offer full and part bursaries to participants of any age who cannot manage the full cost of the course.
